Smit Bajaj and Vishakh Sandwar, both Indian-origin students at New York University, have won the National Football League’s 2025 Big Data Bowl, a competition that challenges participants to use technology and analytics to improve the sport. The two received a $25,000 prize for their project, “Exposing Coverage Tells in the Pre-Snap,” which they presented at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis earlier this year.

The contest, open to adults worldwide, invites participants to analyze raw tracking data collected by the league and create tools that could help coaches, players, or fans. Bajaj, a graduate of NYU’s School of Professional Studies, and Sandwar, a senior at the College of Arts and Science and Stern School of Business, teamed up after meeting through the university’s Blockchain and Fintech Club.
