The International Cricket Council has announced the schedule for the first ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy T20I, a new global tournament designed to strengthen the women’s game and expand competitive opportunities for developing teams. The event will run from Nov. 20 to 30 in Bangkok, Thailand, with matches split between the Terdthai Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology.
Eight teams—Thailand, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda—will compete in the tournament’s inaugural edition. The opening day will feature Thailand vs. the Netherlands and PNG vs. the UAE.
The announcement follows the record-breaking ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which drew more than 500 million viewers in India and attracted nearly 300,000 spectators across India and Sri Lanka. India became the first Asian team to win the Women’s World Cup, accelerating interest and participation in the sport.
The ICC also noted momentum from Women’s Cricket Week, during which more than 40 countries hosted initiatives to promote visibility and encourage player engagement.
Positioned as part of a new three-tier development pathway, the Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy aims to give emerging teams sustained high-performance exposure. "It is the ICC and the Chair’s vision to sustainably expand cricket’s footprint across the world and grow the women’s game," said Sanjog Gupta, chief executive, ICC.
"Providing elite athletes from emerging nations more opportunities to play at the highest level is aimed at fast-tracking their development and improving the competitiveness of their teams. It also drives the visibility of the sport in participant nations, serving as a driver of girls’ involvement in the sport and inspiring women from other nations to stay committed to the development pathways," he added.
