Operation Twilight: How India Secured Sikkim Against China

August 2026 604 views 8:30

Sikkim wasn’t always a part of India. For centuries, it existed as a Himalayan kingdom caught between India, China, Nepal and Bhutan. But after India’s Independence, the 1962 war with China, the 1967 clashes at Nathu La and Cho La, growing political unrest and a powerful pro-democracy movement changed its destiny. So how did Sikkim go from a kingdom to India’s 22nd state in 1975? And what role did India, the Chogyal and Sikkim’s political forces play in this dramatic transformation? Watch Bharat: The Forgotten Chapters EP3 to uncover the story of how Sikkim became part of India.
