He currently serves as dean of the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida, a position he has held since 2020.
At Warrington, Mitra oversaw significant growth in academic programs, philanthropy and alumni engagement. He expanded AI-focused offerings across the curriculum, launched new graduate programs and strengthened online education initiatives. Under his leadership, Warrington’s online bachelor’s degree program was ranked No. 1 nationally by U.S. News & World Report, while its online MBA program was ranked No. 5.
Before joining the University of Florida, Mitra spent 27 years at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business, where he held several senior leadership positions. During his tenure, he helped establish interdisciplinary degree programs and experiential learning opportunities that bridged business, technology and healthcare.
Emory provost and executive vice president for academic affairs Badia Ahad praised Mitra’s collaborative leadership style and strategic vision, describing him as a leader capable of guiding complex academic institutions through a rapidly changing higher education landscape.
Expressing enthusiasm about his appointment, Mitra said Goizueta possesses a strong reputation for research and academic excellence and has the potential to become one of the world’s leading business schools.
“Ever since my many years at Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business, just down the road from Emory, I have always held Emory University and Goizueta Business School in high regard,” Mitra said.
He earned a PhD from the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business and a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.
