Amar Mukunda, an Indian-origin gun violence prevention leader, entrepreneur, and U.S. Army Reserve combat engineer, has announced his candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 39. He is running in the Democratic primary to represent Gaithersburg, Germantown, Clarksburg, Montgomery Village, and Washington Grove.
Mukunda, born to immigrant parents, framed his campaign around the theme “Faith. Family. Fortitude”. He emphasized that his life has been shaped by hardship and resilience. His parents were successful entrepreneurs in the 1990s but lost their business after the post-9/11 market crash. The family went bankrupt and moved seven times before he graduated high school, including nearly three years living rent-free with a family friend.
