USCIRF criticises India over expulsion of Rohingya Muslims

In a statement, USCIRF urged the Trump administration to address the issue and again recommended India’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) on Sept. 4 condemned India’s deportation of Rohingya refugees to Burma and Bengali-speaking Muslims to Bangladesh.

Chair Vicky Hartzler called the expulsions a “blatant disregard for international law,” while Commissioner Stephen Schneck said forcing Muslims to prove citizenship “targets individuals based on religious identity.”
