FBI Director Kash Patel marked Police Week 2026 with a message backing law enforcement and highlighting the Trump administration’s support for police agencies.
In a post on X, Patel said it was his “honor to join America in celebrating Police Week 2026,” describing officers as “the best men and women on earth who put the badge on every day to keep us safe.”

“At this FBI under President Trump, we continue to crush violent crime and defend the homeland at record levels,” Patel wrote, crediting officers working “on the front lines all across this country.”
It’s my honor to join America in celebrating Police Week 2026 - where we honor the best men and women on earth who put the badge on every day to keep us safe.

Patel also repeated a hardline message on attacks against police officers, stating: “If you touch a cop, we’ll put you down. Backing the Blue is here to stay.”
In a video statement released for Police Week, Patel described the annual observance in May as a time to recognize the “dedication and bravery” of law enforcement personnel nationwide, including federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers. He said officers were serving a shared mission “to create a safer America.”
Patel said he had met “countless” officers across the country over the past year and called them “the reason we are the safest we've been in a long time.”
He also highlighted the dangers faced by officers in the line of duty. According to Patel, 53 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the United States last year, while another 28 died accidentally while serving their communities.
“Each of those sacrifices has had a profound and far-reaching consequence,” Patel said. “Each loss has touched us all deeply and left behind a legacy we'll never forget.”
Patel said officers routinely face potentially dangerous situations, including traffic stops and search warrants, but continue to serve with “honor, integrity, and dedication.”
Thanking law enforcement personnel and their families, Patel said the FBI was “honored to serve alongside” them and praised what he described as the Trump administration’s continued support for police.
Police Week is observed each May in the United States and includes memorial events honoring officers who died in the line of duty, along with gatherings involving law enforcement agencies and families of fallen officers.
