An Indian origin pregnant woman was killed after a speeding car struck her during an evening walk in Sydney’s Hornsby suburb on Nov. 14.
The eight-month-pregnant IT analyst, Samanvitha Dhareshwar, died at the scene. Her unborn child also did not survive.

According to New South Wales Police, 33-year-old Dhareshwar was walking with her husband and their three-year-old son along George Street when a Kia slowed down to let the family cross.
A BMW driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu then crashed into the Kia from behind, forcing it forward and hitting Dhareshwar outside a carpark.
First responders attempted life-saving measures, but she could not be revived. Her husband and child were unhurt but witnessed the collision.
Papazoglu was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus.
Police said mandatory hospital testing showed he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and court documents indicated he had no prior criminal or driving offences.
Magistrate Ray Plibersek refused bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and noting it was “a terrible outcome for two families.”
Community groups expressed grief over the incident. In a statement, Indians in Sydney said the community was “in shock and grief after the tragic loss” describing the family as “shattered” According to her LinkedIn profile, Dhareshwar worked as an IT systems analyst with Alsco Uniforms.
Australian media reported that her family had recently purchased land in Grantham Farm in Sydney’s north-west and submitted plans in September for a two-storey home to Blacktown City Council.
The investigation is ongoing.
