An Indian-origin truck driver in Canada has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving charges in a 2023 crash that killed Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul and injured several others, according to local media reports.
Sukhwinder Sidhu, 31, of Angus, Ontario, admitted on Feb. 10 to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, just before his trial was set to begin, the Toronto Sun reported.

Sidhu accepted responsibility for the August 2023 collision in Melancthon Township, Ontario, CP24 reported. The crash killed Paul, a former Canadian Olympic ice dancer, and injured her 10-month-old son and others.
Investigators told the court that Sidhu was driving a transport truck at nearly double the 60 km/h speed limit in a construction zone on County Road 124. He ignored multiple warning signs before crashing into a line of six vehicles, the Toronto Sun reported.
Paul’s vehicle was struck with enough force to push it into a ditch, killing her at the scene. Her toddler son suffered a broken leg. Three other men in nearby vehicles sustained severe, life-altering injuries.
Court details showed Sidhu had been working for 26 hours straight. The truck reached close to its top speed of 108 km/h at the time of the crash.
