British Airways on Aug. 29 announced the launch of a complimentary “Student Travel Assistance” service to support Indian students flying to London Heathrow this summer from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.
The initiative, which runs until October 31, is aimed at easing travel for students heading to the UK for the new academic term. It includes a dedicated check-in desk, airport navigation support, and transfer guidance on arrival at Heathrow Terminal 5.

The airline said it is the only carrier to offer such a service. “For some students, this is the first time they are travelling overseas. Our new service is designed to make their journey as seamless and reassuring as possible,” said Helen O’Connor, British Airways’ Regional General Manager for Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
The launch comes as student mobility between India and the UK continues to grow. India’s Ministry of External Affairs estimates over 1.3 million Indians were pursuing higher education abroad as of January 2024, with the UK remaining one of the most popular destinations due to strong academic and cultural links.
British Airways, which operates 56 flights a week from India to London, said the move builds on its recent “Meet and Assist” initiative offering in-person guidance in Indian languages. The airline said the new service underscores its investment in customer experience, both at airports and onboard.
Students can access the service voluntarily by identifying themselves at check-in, where dedicated signages will direct them to the assistance desk.
