U.S. Congressman Ami Bera announced his decision to skip President Donald Trump's State of the Union address, on Feb. 16.

President Trump's State of the Union address is scheduled for Feb. 24. The speech comes amid a partial government shutdown over DHS funding disputes tied to immigration enforcement, raising Republican concerns that the controversy could overshadow Trump's messaging on national achievements and future priorities.

Bera's decision comes as a reaction to Trump's administrative style and his decisions, which the Congressman accuses of running a "roughshod over the Constitution" while displaying an utter disregard for the Congress.

Rep. Bera sharpened his attack on Trump and described the President as a "troll". He remarked, "I expect him to use this annual event at our Nation’s Capitol –– a building I hold sacred –– to troll both my Democratic and Republican colleagues."

He also remarked that he expects Trump to  make outrageous and inflammatory statements that will make Democrats furious and rise in protest and also lie, exaggerate and talk boastfully about his own brilliance and also force Republicans to "applaud feverishly, and demonstrate their fealty" to the President.

The Representative from Sacramento, in a statement, argued that people do not like President Trump or his policies and therefore the Democrats should better define what they stand for.

He continued, "The American people want secure borders, safe streets, and immigration enforcement focused on arresting and deporting violent criminals. They do not want masked and armed ICE agents randomly picking up people because of the color of their skin or the language that they speak."

He also noted that the people of America expect its local law enforcement to keep it safe and only want help from the National Guard if their governors or mayors seek assistance to keep the peace.
