The Mayor of Santa Clara, Lisa M. Gillmor, has issued a proclamation noting that the month of October will be celebrated as Hindu American Awareness and Appreciation Month.
The Oct. 7 order recognized the cultural, spiritual, and civic contributions of the Hindu American community in the city. The order also recognized the significance of the month's celebration as a global movement highlighting Hinduism as a tradition and contributions Hinduism has made to human society.
The 'seva' (selfless service) offered by the Hindu community was highlighted by Mayor Gillmor, noting the charitable services and the free medical and legal services offered by individuals and community organizations.
