Indian Seniors of Chicago organize Mother’s Day celebration

Nearly 380 members attended the gathering featuring music, yoga, cultural performances and lunch.

The Indian Seniors of Chicago celebrated Mother’s Day and Gujarat Day on May 9 at Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville, near Chicago, with nearly 380 members attending the event.

The program began with Pannaben Shah and Bhupendra Suthar leading the gathering. Members celebrating birthdays in May joined Geeta Ben Suthar in singing Ganesh Stuti, Sarva Dharma Prarthana and Hanuman Chalisa, followed by the song “Baar Baar Din Ye Aye” as part of the birthday celebration. Guests Vishesh Saroj Patel and Dahyabhai Patel presented flower bouquets and extended greetings to the participants.

Umaben Desai later demonstrated yoga poses for attendees. ISC Treasurer Hemant Modi presented the organization’s April income and expenditure report and announced the names of donors.

ISC President Kantibhai Patel welcomed lunch sponsors Dilipbhai Patel and Leena Patel, Satish Parikh and Daksha Parikh, Navinbhai and Kokilaben Patel, Naishadh Bhai and Jagruti, Yogendra Dalal, Harsha, Hashmukh Bhai, Aruna, Dhiren Pawar, Jayshree, Chandrakant Gandhi, Vijay Bhai Patel and Jyoti, along with sweets sponsor Sarojben Dahyabhai Patel, with garlands during the event.

Cultural performances were also held to mark Gujarat Day, with songs presented by Ashwin Thakkar, Arvind Modi, Pushpa Parekh, Praveen Gandhi and Tarla Ben.

As part of the Mother’s Day observance, Pannaben Shah honored 12 women with roses and boxes of sweets. Bhadra Shah performed the song “Janani’s Jod Sakhi Nahi Jade Re Lol.”

An art exhibition featuring works by 12 members was displayed during the program, continuing what organizers described as an annual Mother’s Day tradition.

ISC President Kantibhai Patel also introduced Gauri Magathi, Dr. Bhardwaj Desai and Muralidhar of the organization ‘Vardan.’ Desai and Muralidhar spoke about the ‘Vardan’ app, describing it as a tool designed to help seniors live independently and stay connected with doctors and family members during emergencies.

The event concluded with ISC Vice President Navinbhai Patel asking members to RSVP on time for future gatherings to help organizers manage meal arrangements. Members later joined in a collective prayer before sharing a meal.
