Indian Embassy in DC celebrates 'Spring festivals of India'

From Bihu to Kuchipudi, the event saw a host of performances from a range of members of the Indian diaspora.

The Indian Embassy in Washington DC celebrated the “Spring festivals of India,” on April 19 with a host of shows and exhibitions celebrating Indian culture.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Indian Ambassador to the United States, hosted a gathering for the Indian diaspora at his residence to celebrate the myriad of Indian culture. The event was organized in associated with the Indian Council for Cultural Affairs.

From Bihu to Kuchipudi, the event saw a host of performances from a range of members of the Indian diaspora.

Addressing the gathering, Kwatra highlighted the significance of the Indian diaspora in the US and the contributions made by them.

In his address, Kwatra spoke on the significance of the “Basant” festival, which is celebrated across Indian states. Kwatra also pointed out that the event saw participation ranging from a 3-year-old to a 93-year-old.

Apart from the various Indian cultural dance forms that guests were privy to, the event also saw exhibitions from the Assamese “gamcha” to other traditional artifacts.

The event was as an all encompassing one with the Indian diaspora gathering at the Ambassador’s residence and celebrating the range of cultural aspects that India has to offer.
