FIIDS raises concerns over targeted hate against Indians
The Foundation for India & Indian Diaspora Studies highlighted the recent spike in instances of hate and called for recognition of the community's contributions.

The Foundation for India & Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) issued a statement raising concerns over the growing racism and anti-immigrant hostility against Indians in the United States of America.
Condemning instances of online harassment, discriminatory commentary, and localized protests against immigrants, FIIDS noted that Indians are the most vital contributors to U.S. innovation, economic competitiveness, and community well-being, most evidenced in the USA's technology sector.
A recent CNN report documented nearly 2,700 racist posts targeting Indians and Indian-Americans in one month, highlighting rising online hate against prominent figures like Kash Patel, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Highlighting the contributions of Indians in tech, FIIDS said, "Silicon Valley continues to be powered by Indian-origin talent, and Indian immigrants have co-founded nearly 75 U.S. unicorn startups, which today employ more than 50,000 people across the country."
It further noted that "immigrants make up a crucial share of America’s scientific and research backbone, with Indian-origin professionals representing a significant portion of the 29% of foreign-born STEM workers in the United States."
FIIDS also highlighted the contributions of Indian origin students, who contribute not just academically, but also bring in $10–12 billion annually through tuition and living expenses.
Apart from tech and education, the diaspora's contributions to healthcare, contributing 8.5% of physicians in the country, hospitality industry, with over 34,000 properties, defence and academia are immense.

Highlighting the significance of the community, Khanderao Kand, Chief of Policy and Strategy at FIIDS said, "Given the Indian-American contribution to technology, medicine, hospitality, defense, and academia, as well as businesses like hospitality, transportation, gas-stores and agriculture. Indian-origin professionals form a cornerstone of critical U.S. systems."
Calling for urgent action, he added, "FIIDS urges elected officials, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and community leaders to take immediate steps like awareness to counter rising hate rhetoric and ensure the safety and dignity of Indian-origin residents. Protecting the community is essential for safeguarding America’s economic vitality, global competitiveness, and longstanding values of fairness, opportunity, and inclusion.”
FIIDS also urged all stakeholders to recognize both the vulnerabilities and the extraordinary contributions of the Indian-American diaspora and "stand against bigotry and recommit to policies that welcome talent, uphold merit, and strengthen America’s democratic and innovative spirit."
