Chicagoland Nepali community celebrates grand Dashain
Over 300 attendees gather for a night of music, food, and cultural pride at Chicago’s St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church.

The Chicagoland Nepali Friendship Society hosted its annual Dashain-Tihar Musical Event 2082 (Bikram Samvat calendar) at the St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, drawing more than 300 attendees for an evening of cultural pride, music, and traditional Nepali cuisine.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including president Narayan Khadka, event host Anita Kunwar, and chief guest Balaram Ghimire, alongside representatives from local Nepali organizations who showed their support for the community.

Guests were treated to a feast of authentic Nepali dishes while enjoying a program that showcased Nepal’s vibrant heritage, blending traditional festivities with a modern musical lineup featuring popular Nepali artists Badri Pangeni, Pratap Das, and Elina Chauhan, who kept the audience engaged with spirited performances. Adding to the energy, DJ Oza of Chicago entertained guests between live sets.

Established in August 2007, the Chicagoland Nepali Friendship Society has consistently organized cultural events to promote Nepali heritage and strengthen community ties. This year’s Dashain-Tihar celebration continued that tradition, offering an evening that honored both Nepal’s rich roots and the spirit of its diaspora.
