In a city where politics and performance often cross paths, Queens Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign is drawing energy from an unexpected—and unmistakably New York—coalition: drag artists, actors, queer activists, and cultural icons.
A new event circulating on Instagram announces “Drag Diva Bash NYC,” a fundraiser and rally in support of Mamdani’s bid for mayor. The gathering is set for October 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., and promises an evening of drag performances, cocktails, and what organizers describe as “community building with purpose.”
The promotional call opens with a tongue-in-cheek directive: “Drag yourself to the polls!” It urges New Yorkers to back Mamdani at the ballot box while celebrating the political voice of a cultural community that rarely sees itself courted so directly in election cycles.

The lineup reads like a roll call of New York nightlife, Broadway and activism. Scheduled participants and backers include Amber Martin, Cynthia Nixon, Peppermint (@peppermint247), Boom Boom Hiller, Brita Filter (@thebritafilter), John Cameron Mitchell, Qween Jean, Margaret Cho, Kevin Aviance, and Denée Benton, among others. The event carries the tagline: “A drag diva bash: You had me at Zohran!”
Actor and writer Craig Chester (@mrcraigchester), who is listed on the Host Committee, shared his own post promoting the night. “Excited to be on the Host Committee for this fun-filled night of performances, cocktails, and community — all to raise funds for our Future Mayor @zohrankmamdani!” he wrote.
Organizers say the evening is backed by supporters of the Working Families Party, which has been key in elevating Mamdani’s profile beyond his Astoria base.
