The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA-Chicago) held its annual General Council meeting on March 29, followed by elections and appointments, during which a new amendment was presented and passed unanimously with two corrections.
FIA-Chicago President Hemant Patel, who was reelected this term, welcomed attendees and outlined the organization’s mission. He then invited Election Chair Bharatbhai Barai and committee member Bhailalbhai to oversee the elections.
Patel presented Amendment 4.0 for discussion, which has been incorporated into the latest version of the bylaws and articles of incorporation.
The provisions, which supersede all prior interpretations and amendments, include new membership forms to be submitted via email within two days of signing to the address provided by the president or secretary.
Associations with at least three consecutive years of active participation in FIA-Chicago are exempt from annual renewal forms but must email updated details to qualify to vote.
Non-legacy associations with a minimum of two consecutive years of active FIA-Chicago membership must renew their membership at least seven days before the voting date to qualify as voters.
Each member association is entitled to one vote through a single representative, and nomination forms must include the position, contestant’s name, phone number, email, nominating association name and the authorized person’s contact details. The election committee may verify additional information.
FIA Chicago is a nonprofit organization that serves the Indian diaspora in the Chicago area by organizing cultural, national and community events.
