The Foundation called the measure a step backwards at a time when the United States needs talent to remain competitive. It urged lawmakers to pursue reforms that expand opportunities rather than restrict them.

The South Asian Bar Association of North America Foundation on Sept. 22 sharply condemned the presidential executive order requiring a USD100,000 fee for H-1B visa petitions, calling it “unacceptable and unjust” and warning it would cause fear and confusion among immigrant workers and their families.

In a statement, the South Asian Bar Association of North America Foundation said it unfairly targets South Asian immigrants and undermines decades of contributions to the U.S. economy.
