New bill in US Congress seeks nationwide freeze on immigration

A Republican lawmaker has introduced a sweeping bill to freeze almost all immigration to the United States, a proposal that could significantly affect Indian professionals, students, and families if enacted.

Representative Chip Roy of Texas unveiled the Pausing All Admissions Until Security Ensured (PAUSE) Act last week, which would block the issuance of nearly all visas and stop immigration benefits “until certain conditions are met.” Only temporary tourist visas would remain exempt.
