Fast-track immigration with E-gates now available at Amritsar Airport

The move potentially brings down immigration checks from hours to mere seconds for Indian passport holders and OCI card holders.

The Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Amritsar has launched 'Fast Track Immigration' under the 'Trusted Traveller Program' (FTI–TTP).

The airport has introduced eight automated E-gates, four each for arrivals and departures, enabling passengers to clear immigration through biometric verification, within seconds.

This facility, available free of cost to Indian passport holders and OCI card holders, allows travelers to register online. Once registered and biometrics are submitted at the airport or FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office), passengers can use the E-gates for up to five years or until their passport expires.

By scanning their passport and boarding pass followed by biometric authentication, travelers can avoid traditional counters and unnecessary questioning, often saving hours in the process.

Welcoming this development, Yogesh Kamra, Convener (India) of the FlyAmritsar Initiative, said, “This is a landmark facility for Amritsar. It makes immigration clearance much faster, smoother, and stress-free for international travelers."

FlyAmritsar Initiative is a public interest advocacy campaign working since 2015 in the interest of Punjabi diaspora for better national and worldwide connectivity to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar.

Describing the potential benefits to the diaspora community, the Global Convener of FlyAmritsar Initiative, Sameep Singh Gumtala, said, “For NRIs, including OCI card holders, and Indian passport holders with U.S. Green Cards or permanent residency of other countries, this is a major relief.

He added, "Instead of waiting in long lines or being delayed by unnecessary questioning, passengers can now enjoy a seamless and world-class immigration process at Amritsar.”

In a statement, the FlyAmritsar Initiative described the new initiative as a "welcome step". However, it pointed out that other passenger convenience facilities including the inline baggage screening system and the Digi Yatra System are still missing.

The inline baggage screening system, an integrated automated baggage screening system, has already been installed at the Amritsar airport but is yet to start operation.
