CGI NY to promote Indian teas at AAPI festival
The two-day Brooklyn event marking International Tea Day will showcase Indian tea traditions during AAPI Heritage Month.

The Consulate General of India in New York will participate in Smorgasburg’s AAPI Festival of Tea this weekend, highlighting India’s tea heritage and promoting cultural and trade engagement.
To mark Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the festival will be held on May 23 at Smorgasburg Williamsburg and on May 24 at Smorgasburg Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

In a message shared on International Tea Day, the Consulate invited visitors to “sip India’s finest” at the Consulate General of India, New York Lounge at the festival, which is free and open to the public.

The event will feature tea varieties including Assam and Darjeeling teas, both globally known tea-producing regions in India. Tea remains one of India’s major agricultural exports, with Indian tea culture closely associated with social gatherings and regional traditions.
The AAPI Festival of Tea is part of a broader series of tea-focused public events being held across the United States and internationally in 2026, according to tea festival listings published this year.
The consulate’s participation also aligns with India’s continued cultural outreach efforts in the United States through food, beverages, arts and community events. India has historically used festivals and cultural showcases in the US to promote cultural exchange and public engagement.
Alongside the tea festival, the Consulate is also promoting its newly launched India-USA Trade Facilitation Portal aimed at supporting trade-related engagement between India and the United States. Visitors at the event will be able to learn more about the initiative and register through the portal, according to the announcement.
