In India, love has never been a private affair. It’s a public pageant — part ceremony, part spectacle, part economic miracle. This winter, as the mercury dips and the bandwallahs tune their trumpets, the country is once again dressing up for its favourite festival: the wedding season.

Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 14, nearly 4.6 million couples are expected to marry — a figure that would fill entire cities if gathered in one place. And they’ll spend a breathtaking $78 billion (Rs 6.5 trillion) doing so, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). That’s more than the GDP of Luxembourg, all powered by love, tradition, and a touch of economic exuberance.
