Indian-origin scholar Narasimha Rao, professor of energy systems at Yale School of the Environment (YSE), has said that simple urban design measures could dramatically reduce the risks posed by rising temperatures, especially in the Global South.
He told Yale that his research shows “simply installing cool roofs, painted white to reflect sunlight, could reduce heat stress incidents in informal settlements by 91 percent while mitigating energy demand, especially in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa".
