Jay Gotra, the first Indian American Democrat to run for governor of Rhode Island, believes Indian Americans have a responsibility that extends beyond electoral success.
As the son of immigrants who moved to the United States as a teenager, Gotra said his candidacy is about more than becoming the state's chief executive. It is an effort to encourage more Indian Americans to view public service as a responsibility and to become active participants in shaping the country's future.
