The awards were presented by Indian-Canadian film director and screenwriter Deepa Mehta.
“Receiving these awards from Deepa Mehta ji is a blessing I will cherish forever,” said Kapri.
He added, “Her contribution to world cinema is unparalleled, and her presence made the recognition even more meaningful.”
Talking about the film, Mehta said, “I saw Pyre a couple of nights ago and I was silent for almost 10 minutes — and that does not happen with me very often. I was so deeply moved by what I saw… the narrative, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the absolute control of what we all try to do. I myself learned so much from it — how to be silent, how to celebrate life, how to be moved by it.”
Mehta later wrote on Instagram, "Pyre is a beautiful film. Evocative, thoughtful, moving, with humour that had me grinning. Mychael Danna’s score added to the magic. What a tribute to humanity."
The Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival, held annually in Toronto, is one of North America’s premier showcases for bold, innovative South Asian cinema. The 11th edition celebrated films pushing artistic boundaries and amplifying diverse voices.
