Indus Communities, a Houston-based developer and owner of multi-family apartment communities, announced the promotion of Indian-American Manu Gupta as chief executive officer (CEO).

Manu, who has served as managing director for 12 years, succeeds his father, Ajay Gupta, the founder of Indus, who will remain involved as chairman in an advisory role.

"I am thrilled and deeply privileged to assume the leadership role at the company my parents built from the ground up," Manu said. "Indus is a close-knit, family-run business with incredibly dedicated employees, and I look forward to providing the necessary leadership that continues to support our employees, residents, and investors, as well as the local Houston community."

Ajay Gupta expressed his pride in his son’s appointment, highlighting Manu's significant contributions to the company’s growth. "Few things are more rewarding to a parent and company founder than transitioning leadership of their company to a child who has been so actively involved in growing the business," he said. "Not only has Manu demonstrated he understands our business, he also has been instrumental in closing many important deals in our portfolio."

Manu began his tenure with the family-owned business in 2012 when the company managed six apartment communities valued at $65 million. Over the years, he has been pivotal in expanding Indus' portfolio to 38 communities, now worth over $1 billion. The number of apartment units under Indus’ management has nearly doubled, growing from 6,500 to 11,000 units under his leadership.

Manu, a Houston native, holds a B.A. in History from Rice University and a Doctorate of Medicine from American University. His accolades include being named to the Houston Business Journal's "40 Under 40" list in 2023 and receiving the National Apartment Association's "Emerging Leader of the Year" award the same year.

He also serves on several community boards, including the Houston Apartment Association and India House Houston.
