The company said the leadership change is part of a planned transition following the departure of Robert Prigge after nearly a decade in the role.

Kumar joined Jumio in 2021 and most recently served as chief product and technology officer. In that role, he led the company’s shift from a single-product offering to a broader portfolio of identity intelligence solutions focused on identity verification needs. He will continue to oversee product vision and innovation.
Commenting on his appointment, Kumar said, "I am honored to step into this role.” He added, "We have a strong foundation, a clear strategy, and an incredibly talented team."
"My focus is on executing our strategy in service of our customers and Jumio’s core mission: eradicating identity theft while enabling trusted, low-friction digital interactions for consumers and businesses both now and in the future," he added.
Ben Cukier, co-chairman of Jumio’s board of directors, said, "This transition reflects the strength of our leadership bench and the company’s focus on disciplined execution."
He added, "With deep institutional knowledge and a proven track record of delivering results, Bala is exceptionally well-positioned to lead the company with full authority during this period while we conduct a thoughtful search for a CEO to fuel the next phase of Jumio’s growth."
Before joining Jumio, Kumar held senior product and technology roles at several companies, including TransUnion. He is professionally based in Portland, Oregon.
Kumar brings more than two decades of experience in product innovation, platform strategy, and executive leadership. Prior to joining Jumio, he held senior roles, including global vice president for products in fraud and identity at TransUnion and positions at iovation.
He holds a master’s degree in computer applications from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka and has completed executive leadership training at Harvard University.
The appointment is intended to ensure continuity as Jumio continues operating in the identity verification and biometrics market. The board will conduct a search for a permanent chief executive officer during Kumar’s interim tenure.
