
John Smith-Sreen is a retired Senior Foreign Service Officer with USAID having spent 34 years with the U.S. government starting as a Peace Corps Volunteer. His first and last posts with USAID were in India, a country that he loves, administering activities in clean energy, environment, resilience, connectivity, and disaster management. Previous posts included Bangladesh, Pakistan, Washington D.C, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Jordan, Gabon, and Cameroon. Outside of government, he worked with CARE, Catholic Relief Services, the American Red Cross, and the World Wide Fund for Nature/India. He is married to Poonam Smith-Sreen, also a retired USAID Foreign Service Officer, and they have three adult children who grew up overseas and are all now global citizens. He enjoys gardening, reading, writing, sports, woodworking, traveling, good food and drink, and spending time with family and friends.
