Tina Shah launches Congressional bid in New Jersey’s 7th district

A physician and former White House advisor, Shah is running for Congress to reform healthcare and unseat Rep. Tom Kean Jr.

Dr. Tina Shah, an Indian-origin intensive care physician from Westfield, New Jersey, announced her candidacy for Congress on July 1, launching a campaign to represent the state’s 7th District. Shah, a Democrat, is seeking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Tom Kean Jr., who is seeking a third term in a district that was won by Joe Biden in 2020 and President Donald Trump in 2024.

A New Jersey native, Shah is triple board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonology, and critical care. She practices at RWJ Barnabas Health and is known nationally as a healthcare expert, regularly appearing on television to discuss public health issues.
