US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on June 12 said he is heartbroken to hear the news of a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, with the US Federal Aviation Administration offering help in its investigations.
“Heartbroken to hear the news of a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. My prayers are with all who lost their loved ones in this horrible incident,” Rubio said in a post on X, a few hours after a London-bound Air India plane crashed soon after its takeoff from Ahmedabad.

“We continue to monitor developments and stand with the emergency responders working to help those impacted,” Rubio said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it is in contact with the National Transportation Safety Board regarding Air India flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad (AMD) to London Gatwick (LGW), that was involved in an accident in India on June 12.
“When an international incident occurs, that government leads the investigation. In the event assistance is requested, the NTSB is the official U.S. representative, and the FAA provides technical support. We stand ready to launch a team immediately in coordination with the NTSB,” FAA said.
In a statement, US India Strategic and Partnership Forum deeply mourned the loss of lives in the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. “Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating accident,” USISPF said.
