Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Hashmi to lead 2025 APAICS women’s summit

Indian American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and Virginia State Senator Ghazala Hashmi and will serve as co-chairs of the 2025 APAICS Women’s Collective Summit, scheduled for June 12. 

The annual summit, organized by the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), brings together Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NH/PI) women to promote leadership in public service and will be held at Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia.

Jayapal, the first South Asian American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, brings to the summit her longstanding advocacy for immigrant rights, gender equity, and social justice.



Hashmi, the first Indian American elected to the Virginia Senate, will also be a featured speaker during the summit’s plenary session titled “The Power of Storytelling for Advocacy.” The session will focus on how personal narratives can drive community action, policy change, and public engagement.

APAICS, a nonpartisan nonprofit founded in 1994, works to increase AA & NH/PI representation across all levels of government. Through fellowships, internships, and leadership initiatives, the organization helps develop a pipeline of public service leaders from the community.

The 2025 summit will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET and will feature sessions on leadership development, community building, wellness, and storytelling for advocacy. The event is open to women at all career stages who are interested in exploring or advancing roles in public life.

APAICS describes the summit as “a launching point for women interested in politics,” offering a space to engage with elected officials, policy experts, and peers to foster support and leadership pathways.

Registration is currently open, with a $50 attendance fee.
