Local and state politicians joined members of the Muslim community at Lincoln Park on June 6 to celebrate Eid al-Adha with morning prayers and public messages encouraging civic engagement.
Indian-origin Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla was among the prominent officials in attendance, along with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, and Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea. A New Jersey gubernatorial candidate also addressed the gathering.
The celebration brought together people from various backgrounds in a display of community unity. The Eid prayer was led by Imam Hassan Raza, who spoke on the importance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) sacrifice and the values of faith and obedience.
Imam Raza also used the occasion to stress civic responsibility. “America First – Vote for Americans,” he said, encouraging attendees to participate in the democratic process.
Jersey City council members-at-large, New Jersey State Assembly members, and mayors from neighboring towns also took part in the gathering.
Former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, currently running for Jersey City mayor, and fellow mayoral candidate Mussab Ali were present and engaged with the community.
Community activist Arjumand Juweria thanked attendees and highlighted the collective spirit.
Organizers said the event was not only a celebration of Eid but also a reminder of the importance of civic involvement and community solidarity.
