Indian parliamentary delegation meets Secretary Landau in Washington

The delegation, led by Indian Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, is in Washington to strengthen strategic and counter-terrorism ties following recent security challenges.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation on June 6 to reaffirm U.S. support for India in its fight against terrorism and discussing ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The meeting took place during the delegation’s ongoing visit to Washington, which included engagements with U.S. lawmakers and Vice President JD Vance. The visit holds significance as it comes in the wake of the Apr. 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which occurred during Vice President Vance’s official trip to India.

According to a readout from State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Landau and the Indian delegation discussed “the importance of advancing key areas of the bilateral relationship, including expanding trade and commercial ties to foster economic growth and prosperity in both countries.”

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Washington said, “The Indian Delegation briefed him on the atrocities of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.”

The delegation, led by Indian Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, is in Washington to strengthen strategic and counter-terrorism ties following recent security challenges. On June 5, the group also met with Vice President JD Vance to discuss India’s counter-terrorism response and avenues for further collaboration.

Earlier in the visit, the Indian lawmakers participated in a reception hosted by India’s Ambassador to the United States, where they engaged with members of the U.S. Congress, senior government officials, think tank representatives, and journalists.
