Misra, a globally recognized engineering scholar and administrator, joins LTU after serving as founding director of the Center for Structural and Functional Materials Research at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he was also a professor of metallurgical, materials and biomedical engineering.
He was the founding director of an interdisciplinary University of Louisiana Institute for Structural and Functional Materials that formed a bridge of knowledge from the basic sciences to the engineering disciplines. Prior to joining academia, Misra was a scientist at the Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory, India.
“Misra’s visionary leadership and global perspective will propel LTU’s College of Engineering into its next era of excellence, innovation, and impact,” said Karl Daubman, interim provost and university distinguished professor.
Misra has authored more than 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, holds multiple U.S. patents, and has secured more than $10 million in research funding. His research spans advanced manufacturing, AI-enabled materials design, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering and sustainable energy.
Throughout his career, Misra has emphasized student success, mentoring hundreds of undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral scholars. He has developed curricula, launched international exchange programs, and created initiatives that promote innovation and leadership.
His honors include fellowships with ASM International and the Institute of Materials in London, the Hind Rattan Award from the Government of India, and distinguished alumnus recognition from IIT (BHU).
A native of India, Misra earned his doctorate from the University of Cambridge and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU).
