Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairperson of the Aditya Birla group and Chancellor of the Birla Institute of Technology And Science (BITS), has announced that he will establish AI Plus campus in Amravati, Andhra-Pradesh. The institution is being designed as a centre for Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.
Kumar Birla made the announcement, called it "the AI plus hub for tomorrow”.
Birla, who was recently appointed to the board of US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), talked about the campus in a statement and said, "We are getting ready to set up a new facility at Amravati in Andhra Pradesh and we see it as a bold step to transform higher education in India. This campus will be a hub for innovation and interdisciplinary learning focused on AI, emerging technologies and industry collaboration."
He added, "We want our young minds, the brightest minds in the country, to have all the knowledge they can possibly get in the classroom on all the dominant technologies of our time."

In response to the announcement, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, wrote on X, "I thank Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group and Chancellor of BITS, for taking a bold step to transform higher education in India with the announcement of the AI Plus Campus in Andhra Pradesh."
Talking about the project, he added, "This first-of-its-kind campus will be a world-class centre for Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies."

Responding to Naidu's post, BITS commented, "Thank you, Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, for your visionary leadership and strong commitment to advancing education and innovation in Andhra Pradesh."
The center promises an in-depth focus on all the dominant technologies of this age. Expected to have 7,000 students over two phases, emphasis will be placed on green buildings and renewable energy systems.
A digital first campus, the new BITS campus is expected to get an investment of about Rs 2,000 crore over the next five years.
