Milan Bergamo Airport is seeking new airline partnerships to launch direct flights to the Indian subcontinent, citing growing passenger and cargo demand from Northern Italy’s sizable South Asian diaspora.

The region is home to nearly half of all Indian nationals in Italy, with Lombardy alone hosting around 47,743 people of Indian origin. Milan Bergamo’s catchment area includes 85 percent of this population, along with tens of thousands of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan residents. Many live closer to Bergamo than any other major airport.
