Indian Consulate in San Francisco marks yoga day

The event reflected the growing popularity and importance of Yoga in the Bay Area.

The Consulate General of India in San Francisco on June 22 brought together over 250 participants to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga.

The event hosted in collaboration with the Association of Indo Americans (AIA), and the India Community Center (ICC), was themed "Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. 

The celebration commenced with keynote remarks by dignitaries including Abhishek Sharma (Consul, CGI San Francisco), Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, and Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee. 

Sharma’s keynote emphasized the scientific relevance of Yoga, highlighting its benefits in enhancing mental clarity, reducing stress, and promoting physical well-being. The speakers collectively advocated for integrating Yoga into daily routines to enhance overall health.

Other attendees included Santa Clara Council member Raj Chahal, Sunnyvale Council member Murali Srinivasan, ICC’s Manoj Goel, and Brahma Kumaris’ Sister Kusum.

The event featured several invigorating sessions, beginning with "Meditation and Self-Transformation" led by Sister Kusum, followed by a Common Yoga Protocol session conducted by Yoga expert Manoj Sharma. He guided participants through asanas, Pranayama, Kapalbhati, and meditation techniques. Ambili Sudhakaran concluded with a session on Deep Relaxation Techniques.

Organized by AIA with robust community support, the event showcased the unifying power of Yoga and its role in fostering health, peace, and global harmony.
