International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), has officially launched its Agentic AI Innovation Center in Bengaluru, India, last week.

The center is intended to serve as a collaborative space for businesses, startups, developers, and academic institutions to build, test, and deploy AI agents.

The company stated that these agentic AI systems differ from traditional rule-based bots by functioning autonomously, learning continuously, and handling complex processes across legacy and cloud-based systems. IBM has already integrated these systems across several of its internal operations, including HR, IT, finance, and customer service.

According to IBM, the agents have been used to reduce support ticket volumes, detect and resolve IT issues preemptively, and improve approval and claims processes in finance and customer care. The company emphasized the focus on deploying AI at enterprise scale, rather than as limited pilot programs.

The Bengaluru center will offer infrastructure for co-creation across sectors, training for students and developers, and market support for startups and partners. IBM indicated that the center will serve clients in India and act as a regional hub for AI adoption across emerging markets.

The company added that all AI systems showcased and developed at the center will follow IBM’s AI governance framework, including features for transparency, explainability, and human oversight.

IBM cited current enterprise demands for adaptable digital systems amid regulatory and market changes as the primary reason for investing in agentic AI. The center is positioned as part of a broader effort to support enterprise AI adoption in India and globally.
