Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla has appealed for participation in the 'Make Polluters Pay Climate Strike,' on Aug. 14 in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Organized by the Climate Revolution Action Network, the protest will demand passage of the Climate Superfund Act in New Jersey. The protesters will gather at the Hoboken Pier A, a site that flooded during Hurricane Sandy, making the event personal for Mayor Bhalla.

The Climate Superfund Act seeks to impose liability on certain fossil fuel companies for certain damages caused by climate change and establishes a program to collect and distribute compensatory payments.

Hoboken Mayor highlighted the pressing issue and remarked on X, "Billions in climate funding are gone. Floods rising. FEMA crumbling. Yet the NJ legislature is not making polluters pay."

He added, "On August 14 we change that. Join us in Hoboken."

Youth leaders from across New Jersey will be attending the event and would be joined by labor and advocacy, legislative champions of the bill, and key statewide representatives.

Talking about the protest, the Climate Revolution Action Network said on its website, "This action is about more than just one bill — it’s about climate justice, accountability, and refusing to let another legislative session go by without real solutions that put affordability for average New Jerseyans first."

It added, "we expect movement, not delay."
