Fall kills Indian-origin student during university trip

An Indian-origin student died after accidentally falling from a hotel balcony while on a senior class trip to the Bahamas, just days before his graduation.

Gaurav Jaisingh, a senior at Bentley University in Massachusetts, died on May 11 after falling from an upper-level balcony at a hotel in Paradise Island, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Authorities said Jaisingh was in a room with his roommates at the time.

He was found unresponsive on a lower floor and was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
 



Bentley University issued a statement on X expressing condolences. “It’s been a difficult few days and our community is feeling the emotional toll of the tragic loss of Gaurav Jaisingh ’25. Our hearts go out to Gaurav’s family and friends. We plan to honor Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony,” the university stated on X.

Jaisingh, a finance major from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was active in campus life. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, where he served as pledge coordinator, and was involved in the South Asian Students Association. He also worked as an orientation leader and campus tour guide.

Jaisingh had accepted a full-time position at financial data firm FactSet in New York City, where he had interned previously.

Bentley University’s commencement ceremony is scheduled for May 17.
