It was cricket that had long weekend fans on their toes with some outstanding performances from both batters and bowlers.

The Danville Park in Mississauga was all in action as Mississauga Premiers and Waterloo Warriors recorded resounding wins to keep their slates clean at the end of day one. The Toronto Royals may have lost all three of their games, but they won the hearts of the spectators with their sporting qualities. Although they put up their best, it was not enough to secure a single win out of the three games they played.

The Mississauga Premiers emerged as the dominant side, clinching both their matches to remain unbeaten on Day 1. The Waterloo Warriors put in strong performances, securing two wins out of three, while the Toronto Royals endured a challenging start, losing all three of their encounters.

Midway through the day, the tournament welcomed a special guest as Councillor Natalie Hart joined the celebrations. She felicitated Founder and Curator Atul Ahuja for his outstanding contribution to empowering women in sports, a proud moment for the series and the community.

The return of the highly anticipated World T10®️ Women’s Series at Danville Park, Mississauga, was not without fun and excitement.

With its explosive short format, the World T10®️ Women’s Series has quickly become a stage for empowering female talent and delivering top-tier sporting entertainment to fans in the Mississauga area and beyond.

Their expectations were met with the opening day dazzling performances and a continued focus on development through initiatives like a High Performance Fielding camp, reinforcing commitment to fostering growth at every level and drawing from the best practices in both Baseball and Cricket.

Curated and founded by Atul Ahuja (former Chief Executive of Cricket Canada) with SHOFUN as the Lead Sponsor, this fast-paced sporting event showcased thrilling T-10 action, bringing together skill, speed and strategy, in an unforgettable atmosphere. It was an ample demonstration of women's power as they exhibited they were not far behind their male counterparts in every department of the new craze of  North America, the shortest form of instant cricket.

The two-day 7-match event was preceded by a specialised High Performance Fielding Camp that provided players the chance to sharpen their techniques and enhance on-field agility.

Conceived by Devesh Shankar, the High Performance Fielding Camp was spearheaded by former Canada player and Head Coach of OCA, Derek Perera, and Baseball Coaches from the Brampton Minor League, led by Mohd. Shaikh, President, Toronto District Cricket Association.

Tina Naidu, Director of MCPL Women’s Division, coordinated various teams and age groups attending the High Performance Fielding Program.

Speaking about the second season of the series, Curator Atul Ahuja was overwhelmed, saying,  “World T10®️ is more than just Sport—it’s about creating opportunities, showcasing talent, and celebrating the passion these women bring to the field. This season is bigger, faster, and filled with the kind of energy that leaves spectators asking for more.

“Today was about much more than just cricket. It was about creating opportunities, celebrating women’s talent, and inspiring the next generation. Seeing such spirited performances and the community’s support proves that women’s cricket has an incredible future in Canada,” he added.

Coming to action, it was  Mitra Dinesh (Waterloo Warriors)  who led the charts with a sparkling innings of  77 runs, showcasing consistency and composure. Indomatie Goordial (Toronto Royals), who has already represented Canada,  fought valiantly for her side with a well-made 42 runs in one of the games. Her lion-hearted effort, however, fell short of getting her team a win on day one.

Another batter to steal thunder was  Aastha Gupta, who, like her teammate, Mitra Dinesh, wielded willow well to make 41 runs.

The bowlers, too, chipped in with some memorable performances. Guneet Bhatia (Waterloo Warriors) was outstanding as she picked 3 wickets. Terrisha Bess Lavia (Waterloo Warriors)  bowled well to claim 2 wickets, maintaining the pressure on opponents. Avleen Rai (Mississauga Premiers), the youngest star of the day, dazzled with 2 wickets, earning admiration for her inspired bowling.

With the early action setting the tone, the tournament is now building toward an exciting final day on Monday, where the best performers will battle it out for top honours. Fans can expect edge-of-the-seat finishes, spirited rivalries, and a festive atmosphere at the Park. To make the celebration even bigger, free food will be available for the first 100 spectators, adding to the family-friendly experience.
