The International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) has awarded Indian-American hospitality scholar Dipra Jha with the 2025 Raphael Kavanaugh Champion of Education Award.

ICHRIE, a global community of hospitality and tourism professionals, praised Jha for his innovative teaching methods, cross-border collaborations, and industry outreach. “I’m honored to be recognized by ICHRIE for my efforts to advance the hospitality and tourism industry by delivering high-quality teaching and learning to students around the globe,” Jha said.
Currently serving as an associate professor at Washington State University’s Carson College of Business, Jha works closely with communities, government agencies, and private sector organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
As a board member of the State of Washington Tourism organization, he has played a vital role in planning and workforce development efforts across the region. Columbia Hospitality, a major hospitality group, also invited him to deliver a keynote at its 2025 leadership summit.
Jha has pioneered virtual education models, most notably a globally networked classroom that connects WSU students with peers in Ukraine. Maksym Karpash of King Danylo University lauded the program as a vital academic lifeline for students facing war-related disruptions. “Collaborative learning teaches young people to respect others and celebrate what is common. This would not have happened without Professor Jha’s dedication. Through education, he is creating hope for a better future.”
He also leads study abroad programs, including a successful undergraduate initiative in Dubai, and regularly guides WSU MBA cohorts on international study tours. His efforts have earned him three honorary doctorates from Ukrainian universities and multiple leadership awards, including recognition as one of the International Hospitality Institute’s 100 Most Influential People in U.S. Hospitality and Travel.
