The City of Redlands in San Bernardino County, California officially proclaimed June 21 as International Yoga Day.
Spearheaded by Council Member Eddie Tejeda during last week’s City Council meeting, the proclamation highlights the city’s dedication to wellness, cultural heritage, and community cohesion.
The proclamation marks the 11th anniversary of the United Nations–designated International Day of Yoga, first endorsed in 2014 through a UN Resolution under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi—a resolution now upheld by 175 nations. It emphasizes yoga’s timeless role as an ancient Hindu practice that fosters physical well-being, mental health, and global unity.
The proclamation states Redlands’ pride in embracing the traditions of yoga and encouraging residents to benefit from its widespread wellness impact. It also reflects the 2025 UN theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” aimed at reinforcing both individual well-being and social harmony.
We thank the City of Redlands, and Council Member @RealEddieTejed1 for their proclamation honoring and celebrating June 21, 2025 as International Yoga Day.

Expressing gratitude, the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) issued a public statement on Twitter, saying, “ This is a great way to recognize the rich history and traditions of yoga and the widespread impact of this ancient Hindu practice.”
Council Member Tejeda, who represents District 2 and previously served as mayor, has been a prominent advocate for initiatives promoting health, public safety, and services in Redlands. Elected in 2016, Tejeda is known for his work on city infrastructure, public facility improvements, and park enhancements, alongside backing economic growth in the region.
The City of Redlands joins a growing number of U.S. municipalities that formally observe the day, fostering community events, yoga sessions in public parks, and educational initiatives.
