Indian American speaker, author, executive coach and conscious leadership facilitator, Chanchal Garg is set to release her debut memoir on June 2.

Titled, ‘Unearthed: The Lies We Carry and the Truths They Bury’ the memoir details Garg’s journey growing up in a traditional  Indian family in the U.S. Midwest and the pressure she faced to conform to cultural expectations of obedience and self-sacrifice.

Garg recounts her experience with a spiritual leader revered by her family and the long-term impact of what she described as spiritual and sexual abuse. A turning point came during a yoga class while she was pregnant, when repressed trauma resurfaced, prompting what she called a painful but liberating process of healing.

“For many women, especially within South Asian communities, obedience, self-sacrifice, and silence are woven into our understanding of what it means to be good—good daughters, good wives, good mothers,” Garg wrote.

In Unearthed, Garg explored themes of faith, identity, and liberation, aiming to empower women to reclaim their stories. It encourages readers, especially South Asian women to break generational cycles and live life on their own terms.

The book garnered early praise for its emotional depth and literary craft . Kara Cutruzzula, author of Do It for Yourself, called it “deeply personal, wise, and beautiful,” while Rosie McMahan, author of Fortunate Daughter: A Memoir of Reconciliation, described it as “a must-read for those interested in stories of loyalty, lies, and liberation.”

Garg founded Real Space, a coaching practice focused on helping leaders overcome limiting beliefs and reconnect with authenticity. At Stanford, she facilitated the Graduate School of Business’s flagship course on interpersonal dynamics for more than seven years, working with over 500 business leaders.

She was also featured on platforms including Lululemon’s International Women’s Day and the podcasts She Has the Mic and I Don’t Give a Should.
