Victoria police chief Del Manak, Canada’s first Indian-origin individual in this position, retired on Aug.27 after 35 years in law enforcement. He had led the Victoria Police Department since 2017, becoming the first officer of Indian origin to head the force in its 168-year history.

On his final day, Manak drove to police headquarters in his patrol vehicle before leaving in a BMW convertible decorated with balloons in the colors of the New York Islanders hockey team. In a message on X, he wrote, “Been a blast, 35 yr policing career, 9.5 yrs as Chief! In Traffic, having big sideburns, my nickname was ‘Delvis’. Delvis has left the building.”
