Indian American venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani and the Motwani Jadeja Family Foundation have pledged US$5 million to establish the Motwani Jadeja Institute for American Studies (MJIAS) at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in India.

The institute will advance India-U.S. academic collaboration and foster global dialogue, serving as a significant platform for research, policy engagement, and student exchange between the two countries.

It is named in honor of late Indian-American computer scientist and Stanford professor, Rajeev Motwani, who famously mentored Google’s founders and other Silicon Valley innovators. The institute will carry forward his legacy of education, innovation, and cross-border engagement.

MJIAS will focus on interdisciplinary research in U.S. politics, law, economy, culture and technology. Its initiatives will include faculty and student exchanges, a master’s program in American Studies, and annual events such as the Rajeev Motwani Memorial Lecture and a bilateral conference on India-U.S. relations.

Additional strategic platforms will include a tech-innovation hub, youth and policy forums, and global indices to track bilateral cooperation. The institute aims to become a global center of excellence in American Studies and a catalyst for India-U.S. ties.

“The establishment of the Motwani Jadeja Institute for American Studies at JGU reflects my deep belief in the power of education to shape global narratives and foster enduring partnerships. At a time of great global transformation, it is vital for India and the United States to invest in the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and leaders who can build bridges of understanding, cooperation, and innovation,” said Asha Jadeja.

This gift marks one of the largest philanthropic contributions to JGU to date and stands among the most significant investments in American Studies in India, the university said in a statement.
