Swades Parade held by AIA in Bay Area draws thousands

Over 25,000 people participated in the parade organized as part of the Independence Day celebration.

The Association of Indo Americans (AIA) & Bolly 92.3 organized 'Swades', in celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day.

AIA also organized the Historical India Parade in the streets of Downtown San Jose with over 75 floats. The floats were heavily decorated and included floats decorated with representation of Indian states' culture and heritage.

Supported by over 50 Indian organizations in the Bay Area, over 25,000 people participated in the parade. Indian actress Ameesha Patel was the Grand Marshal of the parade.

The celebration also featured cultural performances and sports including chess and carrom.

The Indian national flag was also hoisted as part of the celebration. The flag hoisting was led by dignitaries including the Founder of Earth Cleanse, Srikanth Bolla and Deputy Consul General of India in San Francisco, Rakesh Adlakha along with Ameesha Patel.

Following this, the US national flag was also hoisted by San Jose Mayor, Matt Mahan.

Mahan conveyed his wishes and stated that the Parade will only get bigger in the years to come. Further he said that AIA's Swades celebrations will become a big attraction in San Jose.

Over 50+ elected officials across Silicon Valley including Assemblymember Ash Kalra and Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan attended the celebration.
