Commenting on the recognition, Khan said, “To be honored with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman and to the I&B Ministry and to everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour. I promise to use this recognition not as a finish line, but as fuel to continuous striving, learning and giving life. The award is a reminder that acting is not only a job, it is a responsibility.”
Sharing the Best Actor award with Khan was Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail, a moving biopic inspired by the journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar. 12th Fail also clinched the Best Feature Film Award.
The awards recognized cinematic works released in 2023. Other key winners included Rani Mukerji as Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Sudipto Sen as Best Director for The Kerala Story. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani was awarded Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
