Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi recently visited the Shiv Durga Temple in Bay Area, California, and expressed solidarity with the Hindu American community after the alleged attack on the temple.

The Bay Area Shiv Durga Temple in Santa Clara, California was allegedly broken into and vandalized. The incident comes to light in the backdrop of the recent spike in temple vandalization instances. Attacks including the vandalization of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Greenwood, Indiana and temple shooting at Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Utah, have raised concerns and questions.

Demanding immediate justice, Rep. Krishnamoorthi said in a statement, "I condemn in the strongest terms possible the break-in and vandalization of the Bay Area Shiv Durga Temple in Santa Clara, California. The perpetrators of this crime must be brought to justice immediately."

The Congressman also announced plans to meet the temple administration in an attempt to assess damage and express solidarity with the broader Hindu American community.

Appealing for support, he said, "Together, we must pray and lend our support so that the Shiv Durga Temple of Bay Area can get back on its feet. We must also collectively condemn these abhorrent acts of violence as incidents targeting Hindu temples across the United States are on the rise."

The broader pattern of attacks on Hindu temples has raised concerns within the community. After the Utah shooting, Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America President, Tejal Shah, called out the larger pattern of violence and its troubling roots, she said, “This reprehensible act is not only an attack on a sacred place of worship, but also a direct threat to the principles of peace, harmony, and religious freedom that define our society,” said Tejal Shah, president of VHPA.

Expressing continued support to the community, Krishnamoorthi said, "In America, everyone should be able to pray in peace and safety — and I will continue to speak out, show up, and offer my support to preserve this sacred ideal.”
